NORTH WEBSTER — A North Webster woman was recently arrested after providing alcohol to three minor females and then making inappropriate sexual advances.

Elizabeth Likens

Elizabeth Likens, 31, 9374 E. Backwater Road, North Webster, is being charged with child solicitation, a level 5 felony and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, class A misdemeanors.

On Jan. 22, an officer responded to a report of a juvenile consuming alcohol. Upon arrival, a witness showed him a video that a female minor, identified as AA, had shown her. The video shows another female minor, identified as BB, consuming an alcoholic beverage.

The officer spoke with BB who advised she had been at a sleepover with two other female minors, identified as CC and DD. BB told the officer that an older female named Lizzy, later identified as Likens, was at the residence and brought alcoholic beverages. BB further advised that Likens had attempted to kiss her.

A caseworker with the Indiana Department of Child Services spoke with CC who confirmed that BB and DD had been at a sleepover. CC advices that Likens came into the bedroom with beer and whiskey and encouraged them to drink it by saying, “chug, chug, chug.” CC further advised that Likens was in the room for more than an hour making inappropriate comments to them such as, “you are so sexy,” and calling them pretty. CC became ill from the alcohol and vomited several times before falling asleep.

The caseworker then spoke with DD who told a similar sequence of events. DD advised that after providing them alcohol, Likens squeezed her butt without consent and told her she had a nice butt. DD told Likens to stop and Likens attempted to kiss her. Likens then kissed BB, which DD referred to as a “really sexual kiss.”

The officer spoke with an 18-year-old female who was at the residence a day after the minor females. This female advised that Liken also offered her alcoholic beverages, tried to kiss her, put her hands down the back of her pants and rubbed up the back of her shirt touching her bra strap.

Likens was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on April 4, with a $10,250 surety and cash bond.

On March 23, Henson’s ex-wife made arrangements to meet him at his residence so she could retrieve some of her personal items. According to the affidavit of probable cause, Henson was not there yet and she began to look for her belongings.

When Henson arrived, he became angry and physically pushed the female out of the house. The argument continued outside and Henson kicked his ex-wife in the face, causing her to sustain a swollen and bruised left eye.

Officers talked with Henson, who said that there was no physical contact between him and his ex-wife.

A child was present at the scene, stating that he didn’t observe anything but heard the two arguing.

Henson was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on March 23. He has been released on a $6,000 surety and cash bond and given an initial hearing date of April 19.

CVS Car Attack Nets Warsaw Man 29 Years

WARSAW — A Warsaw man who hid inside a woman’s car in the parking lot of a local drug store and attacked her last year could serve at least 20 years in prison.

Daniel V. Davis

Daniel Vincent Davis, Warsaw, pleaded guilty to criminal confinement, a level 2 felony and attempted robbery, a level 3 felony in Superior Court 1 on Thursday, April 5.

According to police, Davis was observed asking for a ride in the Warsaw CVS parking lot on March 20, 2017, before being asked to leave by a manager. Davis later hid in the back seat of a woman’s car and when she got into her vehicle and noticed him in the back seat, she tried to escape but was grabbed by Davis, police said.

The victim bit Davis on the hand, exited the vehicle and ran for help inside the store. Police located Davis, intoxicated and armed with a screwdriver within a block of the store. He told police he’d planned to rob the woman and steal her car.

Last month Davis pleaded guilty to criminal confinement and attempted burglary.

“[The event] is probably the embodiment of terror for any of us,” said Karin McGrath who represented the prosecution. “She told me she can’t even let her dog out at night after what happened. But, the way she behaved that day was nothing short of amazing.”

When police found Davis shortly after the incident, he was bearing the wound caused by the victim biting his hand.

Matt Buehler, the attorney representing Davis said the accused has a noted history of alcohol abuse including four prior alcohol-related convictions.

“That is certainly not to suggest alcohol is the reason for the events, but that it certainly was a contributing factor,” said Buehler. Buehler added that from the early moments following the incident up until the present, Davis had been fully compliant with law enforcement and other authorities. “But, Mr. Davis made a terrible series of decisions that day that led us to this point.”

Davis agreed. “What I did was unacceptable, it was wrong. I am so sorry and ashamed,” he said.

While Davis said he hoped to one day be forgiven for his actions, Judge David Cates said that would not be coming from the bench.

“Mr. Davis, forgiveness is above my pay grade,” Cates said. The judge also commented on claims of remorse by the defense and by Davis himself, “which I believe is there,” he said. Cates told the courtroom that for Davis, the aggravators outweighed the mitigators and that consequences “cannot be undone because of your choices.”

Cates gave Davis 380 days of jail time credit and sentenced him to 20 years for criminal confinement and nine years for attempted burglary. The sentences will be served concurrently, or at the same time.

Rocky O’Connell

NORTH WEBSTER — A Columbia City man was arrested for counterfeiting after exchanging money with a Good Samaritan in a North Webster convenience store last month.

Rocky D. O’Connell, 33, 108 E. Hanna St., Columbia City, is charged with counterfeiting, a level 6 felony.

According to officers of the North Webster Police Department, a cashier at the North Webster Circle K reported the passing of a counterfeit $100 bill in the store on March 7. The cashier told the police that a man came in and asked to break a $100 bill but that she told him there wasn’t enough money in the store to justify the transaction. Another customer in the store offered to break the bill.

After the exchange, the original owner of the $100 bill left and shortly after, the customer realized the money wasn’t genuine. Police talked to the duped customer on March 8, who turned over the fake bill. Police reported the bill was poorly made, and obviously counterfeit. O’Connell was identified in the store’s surveillance video and was seen leaving the store in a red car with another man, who police also identified.

On March 14, one of the investigating officers heard the name of the second man come over the radio as being part of a traffic stop. He drove to the scene and found the red car and O’Connell in the passenger’s seat. O’Connell admitted to the money exchange and told police he was homeless, had no job and no money.
