John J. Etter Jr. has been arrested on charges brought against him, related to a crash dating back to June 3.
Etter is being charged with causing serious bodily injury while operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, a class D felony. He is also being charged with criminal recklessness, a class A misdemeanor. He is being held on $2,500 cash bond.
The accident occurred a little after 6 p.m. on County Farm Road, south of CR 350S. Etter reportedly crossed the center line while traveling on County Farm Road, coming into the path of a car driven by Gary Spangle, 43, Claypool. (See related story)
Also in Spangle’s vehicle were his wife, Maxine Spangle, 51, Claypool, and two children, Madison and Hunter Haines, both of Claypool.
According to a supplemental affidavit for probable cause, Maxine Spangle sustained femoral fractures, fracture of the lumbar vertebra and fracture of the neck. She was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Gary Spangle, Hunter and Madison were taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for injuries.
It was determined Madison Haines had suffered a clavicle fracture. Gary Spangle suffered a patella fracture. Hunter Haines was later transferred to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, for further evaluation.
According to the police affidavit, alcohol was determined to be a factor in the crash. Etter’s BAC was .15, well above the legal limit, according to statues set in place by the state.
