NORTH WEBSTER — An Angola man was recently arrested for possession and dealing of a narcotic, theft of a firearm and carrying a handgun without a license.
Travis Lee Covell, 29, 612 Carlin Dr., Angola, was arrested on Dec. 18, for a level 2 felony dealing methamphetamine; level 4 felony possession of methamphetamine; Level 5 felony carrying a handgun without a license and a level 6 felony theft of a firearm.
According to an affidavit of probable cause issued by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office, North Webster Police Officer Clayton N. Rieder observed a blue Ford Expedition at 730 S. Main St., North Webster. When Rieder ran the Expedition’s license plate the registration returned for a 2005 Toyota sedan.
Rieder then conducted a traffic stop on the Expedition and identified the driver as Travis Lee Covell. Rieder had Covell sit on the ground while he proceeded to preform a search of the vehicle where he reportedly found, under the driver’s seat, a loaded, black Springfield 45 caliber handgun.The handgun had been reported as stolen to the Kosciusko Sheriff’s Department in March.
According to the affidavit there was a black pouch on the ground next to Covell which, according to Rieder, contained five plastic bags of a white crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. Covell admitted to having been paid $200 to deliver the methamphetamine.
According to the affidavit Covell was convicted of a class D felony of possession of a controlled substance in Lagrange County Superior Court Dec. 17, 2014.
Covell was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail Dec. 18, for possession of meth, possession of marijuana, theft of a firearm, carrying a handgun without a license, possession of substances and given a $5,000 surety bond and $250 cash bond.
