SYRACUSE — A Syracuse man has been arrested for allegedly causing permanent loss of movement in an index finger of a female, as well as assaulting her.

Justin Doyle Anderson, 33, 118 N. Lake St., Syracuse, was arrested Wednesday, Aug. 26 and booked on charges of battery, by means of a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony and battery, a class A misdemeanor. He is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $20,00 surety bond.

The affidavit of probable cause, filed in Kosciusko Superior Court I, states the incident occurred on March 1, at Anderson’s residence.

Syracuse Police were notified at 6:57 p.m. that Sarah Ginter was assaulted with a knife by Anderson, her roommate. Ginter told police she was in the kitchen cutting up chicken and listening to music, when Anderson requested she turn the volume down. During the discussion, he became agitated, grabbed her by the shoulder and hair, taking her to the floor. She stated he then took the knife from her and placed it in her hand, squeezing her hand, which caused the knife to cut her fingers.

She was transported to IU Health Goshen after complaining of pain to the head from being struck by Anderson and was treated for cuts to the hand with permanent loss of movement to her index finger.

Anderson told police the music was very loud and after he told her to turn the music down for the third time, she grabbed a knife and came at him. He then grabbed her putting her on the floor, holding her down and removing the knife from her hand. He said her hand was cut when she tried to grab the knife back from him.
