Warsaw Police Department
Officers of the Warsaw Police Department recently investigated the following accidents:
Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2:19 a.m. North Bay Drive and East Winona Avenue. Driver: Matthew G. Sasso, 22, North Bay Drive Extended, Warsaw. A Winona Lake Police Officer located a utility pole that had been snapped. Wires and three transformers were found on the ground. Tire marks indicated the driver, later identified as Sasso, was eastbound on Winona Avenue at a high rate of speed and collided with the pole. Sasso’s Jeep Wrangler was located two blocks away with heavy front end damage. Sasso was initially arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Damages: up to $25,000
Tuesday, Sept. 17, 12:55 p.m. South Maple Avenue and East Market Street. Drivers: Dorothy J. Sweeney, 85, Oak Street, Warsaw; and Nancy A. Gast, 62, Park Avenue, Warsaw. Sweeney stopped at the stop sign but then proceeded into the path of Gast’s vehicle. Damages: up to $25,000
Tuesday, Sept. 17, 11:38 a.m. East Center and North Reed streets. Drivers: Dan B. Thystrup, 57, North Webster; Ivory W. Snipes, 60, South Packerton Road, Claypool; Elizabeth P. Estep, 77, West 4th Street, North Manchester; and Virginia L. Smith, 77, Chestnut Avenue, Winona Lake. Thystrup said he was distracted by a police officer on a traffic stop and failed to see the vehicles in front of him stopped for a train. Damages: up to $10,000
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department
Officers of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department recently investigated the following accident:
Tuesday, Sept. 17, 5:34 p.m. West U.S. 30 and North 800 West, Warsaw. Drivers: Eric N. Maple, 37, Fulton Avenue, Rochester; and Brandon P. Vandonk, 38, Country Club Road, Warsaw. Maple failed to see Vandonk’s approaching vehicle and attempted to cross U.S. 30, resulting in the collision. Damages: up to $10,000
