Joe Sanchez, 44, 1009 N. SR 109, Columbia City, who also is being shown with an address of 1615 E. Sheridan St., Warsw, has been arrested on theft, fraud, and deception charges after taking a golf cart from residents at Jellystone Campground, south of North Webster, in September of 2014.
Court documents show on Sept. 3, 2014, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputy Joel Popenfoose responded to a report of a stolen golf cart. He met with Donna and Jerry Sanders who stated around 10 p.m. Sept. 2, someone had cut the chain and loaded the golf cart on a trailer and left.
The Sanders stated Sanchez was paid $3,300 for the E Go Golf cart, which was chained to a tree at their campground site.
Police spoke with Sanchez who verified he had sold the golf cart after he purchased it from Roger and Melodie Chris, showing documentation he was to make payments until it was paid in full. However, no documentation was provided showing it had been paid in full. He also told police Chris came to his residence and requested the golf cart be returned, as no payments had been made. Chris was told the golf cart had been sold and where it could be found. Chris allegedly then went to the Sanders lot and took the golf cart.
During the investigation Sanchez stated he would pay Chris the remaining money he owned for the golf cart and that Chris would return the golf cart to Sanders. However he failed to pay the money. Charges were filed on April 20, 2015.
