A former surgeon from Lafayette who was accused of plotting to kill his ex-wife in 2014 was caught in Arizona last night after fleeing Indiana earlier in the week.

Gregory Konrath removed his tracking device and fled Indiana on Tuesday, April 28. He was apprehended during a traffic stop in Coconino county, Arizona, about a mile west of Flagstaff Thursday evening, April 30.

Konrath agreed to a plea deal in December 2014, pleading guilty to stalking charges against both his ex-wife and girlfriend at the time. Attempted murder charges were dropped due to technicalities in the law. He was sentenced to 10 years: one year in prison, one year in community corrections and eight years probation. His medical license was also suspended. It is not clear yet why he fled to Arizona.

The arrest was made following a joint investigation by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office, Miami County Community Corrections, the U.S. Marshal’s Office, the FBI, the DEA, Arizona Department of Public Safety, the Apache County (AZ) Sheriff’s Office and the Navajo County (AZ) Sheriff’s Office.

Konrath is being held without bond in Coconino County Jail pending extradition back to Indiana. Upon return, he will face a level 6 felony for his escape and possible revocation of his previously suspended eight year sentence.
