Jason S. Kratzchmar, 39, West Jackson Street, Mentone, was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital by Multi-Township EMS after he complained of pain to the neck, following a two-vehicle accident. He also was found to be confused and disoriented.
The accident occurred at 3:24 p.m. Thursday, April 23, on West US 30 and North CR 800W, Atwood.
Kratzchmar was southbound on CR 800W when he crossed the westbound lanes of US 30, but failed to stop for eastbound traffic. His vehicle was struck by an eastbound, truck hauling a trailer, driven by Eric L. Halterman, 37, Elizabeth Street, Rochester.
Halterman told police he attempted to avoid the collision by applying the breaks on the truck, but could not avoid the accident. The breaking of the truck and impact of the collision caused the “goose neck” on the trailer to break, shifting the trailer forward and breaking out the back window.
Damage was estimated up to $25,000.
