A two-month-old infant was flown to Riley’s Children’s Hospital following a two-vehicle accident at 11:59 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, on US 6 at Elm Street, Nappanee.
Marijuana and drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle which caused the crash.
Cora Rouch, Nappanee, sustained a head injury and was unconscious following the accident. She was initially taken to Elkhart General Hospital and then flown to RIley’s Children’s Hospital for a head injury.
Wanda Schlemmer, 39, Mishawaka, was westbound on US 6, east of Elm Street, when she began to have a seizure. Her vehicle accelerated abruptly and the passengers could not stop the vehicle, before striking a pole and the back passenger side of a vehicle driven by Trisha Rouch, 34, Nappanee. Rouch was also traveling westbound on US 6 and beginning to turn onto Elm Street.
After the Schlemmer’s vehicle hit the Rouch vehicle, it continued across US 6 where it hit a building and another unoccupied vehicle.
Marijuana and drug paraphernalia was located in the Schlemmer’s vehicle.
Schlemmer complained of pain to the ankle and wrist.
The accident is being investigated by the Elkhart County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team.
